Scholarship Information
Thanks to funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the National Historical Records and Publications Commission, a limited number of scholar stipends are available to help defray lodging and registration costs associated with attending an Institute. - Scholarships range from $200 to $1,000.
- In order of priority, scholarships are to cover (1) registration; (2) accommodations; (3) travel.
- Awards will be based on the extent to which you will benefit from the training received, and the amount of funding available.
Key Dates
Applications must be received at least 30 days prior to each Institute (Deadlines are March 14, June 14, July 14, September 21). You will be notified via e-mail no later than three workdays as to the status of your application.
Applicant Criteria
- Must currently work with tribal programs, or
- Serve as a volunteer or intern with tribal cultural programs, or be
- Currently enrolled in a museum, library, or archival-related program.
Registration
You may request registration waivers for the workshops ($50) and the institutes ($200).
Lodging
Only the hotel room rate and taxes are covered. All other room charges, such as telephone calls, movies, etc., will be your responsibility.
Travel
- Depending on the number of requests received, partial travel reimbursements may be available.
- Travel reimbursement checks will be mailed after the conference. Registration fees and lodging will be covered in advance.
- To be eligible for lodging, you must travel at least 100 miles round trip.
- When estimating travel, indicate the estimated lowest coach airfare. If traveling by automobile, estimate .45 cents a mile.
- If traveling by air, only the cost of your coach airfare will be considered
Meals
Conference registration covers breakfast and lunch on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. You will be responsible for your evening meals.
Obligation of Scholars
If you are awarded a scholar stipend you will be required to sign a contract ensuring your attendance at the institute or workshop. In the event you cannot attend, you are to notify the Institute Office in writing at least 48 hours prior to the start of the event. If notification is not received, you will not be eligible for future scholarships.
